Uganda defeated Egypt 1-0 in the African qualifiers to the 2018 World Cup Thursday afternoon.
A 51st minute Emmanuel Okwi strike separated the two sides in front of a packed house at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
The Cranes thus leapfrog Egypt into top spot at the halfway stage of the group campaign.
Now on 7, Uganda sit a point clear at the top of the table with rounds of Group E matches remaining.
Ghana, who have only one point from two games, play Congo in the group’s other game in Kumasi on Friday. A win for the Black Stars throws the group open.
Only the top-placed team qualifies for Russia 2018.
