10,000 books presented to Central Region schools by GMB queen

Esi booksVera Oheneba Safoah, the reigning queen of Ghana’s Most Beautiful has donated 10,000 exercise books to some selected basic schools in the Central Region.

The selection of basic schools was done in about five districts in the Region based on records of high prevalence of teenage pregnancy.

The three-day event for the distribution of the books saw Ms Safoah, popularly known as Esi, and her team visit the Agona East District, where ten schools benefited from the Sasso-branded exercise books.

Five schools in the Ejumako District also had a surprise as the team – made up of Samara Group of Companies, producers of Sasso coil and insecticide spray and major sponsors for the books – made a whistle stop and did a random sharing to the pupils.

The event on the second day was held at the Victoria/Jubilee Park, where about 20 schools from the Cape Coast metropolis and five schools from Elmina in the Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abrim District converged for a durbar to receive their share of the books.

Esi books5The durbar brought together some chiefs and queenmothers from the Oguaa Traditional Council led by the President and Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, and other dignitaries including officers of the education directorate.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II addressing the colourful event lauded Esi for the gesture and said she was indeed an icon for the youth of the Region especially Cape Coast, where she hails from.

“Esi has shown much love for her land of birth and she has proven that indeed education is a key to development that is why she has brought these educational materials to benefit you all.”

He stressed the need for school children to take their studies seriously and aspire to greater heights to help develop the Central Region and Cape Coast.

“As young ones and pupils, your studies should be your paramount priority. You all see Esi here, she should be a great role model for you to emulate,” he added.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II also urged parents and guardians to instill discipline in their wards to protect them from engaging in activities that could end up destroying their future.

He also commended the Samara Company for their support and asked other organizations to emulate same.

Esi, on her part, bemoaned the high incidents of teenage pregnancy in the Region, saying it is not a good one for the image of the Region.

“You all know that the Central Region is well known because it is the educational hub of the country and it is important that you all take your studies very seriously to be counted among the best students so you can make it to the best senior high schools here.”

As an anti-teenage pregnancy ambassador, Esi used the occasion to preach against the vice.

She told the girls not to engage in any form of promiscuous life which will lead to teenage pregnancy to hamper their education and future hopes.

“You should let your education be the ultimate priority to you. If you engage in some lifestyles and follow boys you end up getting pregnant and your education gets destroyed which can affect all your future dreams,” she cautioned.

Esi books4She said her PEMPAMSIE FOUNDATION is committed to fighting vigorously against teenage pregnancy and other social vices because it is a canker that is destroying the future of some youth in country and called on stake holders to give her foundation the needed support.

She said the distribution of the Sasso exercise books is one of the gestures she and her foundation is doing to stress the importance of education and was full of praise to Samara Group of Companies for supporting such an initiative and asked the pupils to urge their parents to patronize Sasso products to enable Samara to sponsor more of such vital projects. Marketing Director of Samara Company Nartey Ologo in his address also reiterated Samara Company Limited’s commitment to its social public responsibility.

“As part of social corporate responsibility, sponsoring Esi, the reigning queen of Ghana’s Most Beautiful with 10,000 learning materials is in the right order as she has exhibited a good morale of beauty with a purpose,” he said.

He added that Samara Company realizes the importance of education which is the key to the country’s development and as such shares in the same ideology.

Mr Nartey announced that such gesture was also done in the Western Region and all contestants of the 2015 Ghana’s Most Beautiful will have some for their respective regions too.

He, however, urged the public to continue to use the good products of Sasso to help them to offer such gestures.

The last day of the three-day distribution took Esi and her PEMPAMSIE FOUNDATION and the Sasso team to the Mfantsiman District, where ten  schools in Nyamoransa,  Birwa, Anomabo and  Mankessim got their  share of the exercise books, which have a photo  of Esi on.

In the Mfantsiman District, Esi and officials from Samara Company Ltd paid a courtesy call on the queenmother of Mankessim, who also commanded Esi and the Samara Company for their initiative.

Esi also stressed in her campaign against teenage pregnancy and asked the pupils to take their education seriously in all the schools she visited in that District.
