Two thousand (2,000) illicit weapons are expected to be burnt by the Ghana Small Arms Commission in Accra tomorrow, Saturday 9th July 2016.
The weapons form part of unlicensed small arms that were seized mainly from unscrupulous people across the country.
These illicit arms were seized in areas such as Tamale, Bawku, Wa, Kumasi and Accra.
The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Small Arms Commission, Jones Appleh, disclosed this on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Friday hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa.
He said the burning exercise forms part of the United Nation’s Weapons Destruction Day which is commemorated every July 9.
Mr. Appleh said the about 2000 weapons are just a fraction of illegal arms in the system.
He assured that his outfit will continue the fight to retrieve weapons from the hands of unscrupulous people.
