The Ghana Small Arms Commission has destroyed a total of 2,000 illicit weapons seized across the country.
The weapons, seized from unscrupulous persons at Tamale, Bawku, Wa, Kumasi and Accra among other areas, were burnt at the Trade Fair site in Accra on Saturday.
Executive Secretary of the Ghana Small Arms Commission, Jones Appleh, said the destruction of the weapons is in line the UN’s Weapons Destruction Day, which is marked globally on July 9.
He noted the 2,000 weapons were just a portion of what is already in the system, and assured that they would continue the fight to retrieve all illegal weapons in unscrupulous hands
