The fastest man in the world has landed.

Usain Bolt has arrived in Rio for his bid to become an unprecedented three-time gold medal winner at a third consecutive Olympic games.

Athletics’ shining light will hope to defend his 100m, 200m and 4x100m titles at the games which kick-start on August 5 in Brazil, pledging that he will not surrender his medals.

The towering sprinter touched down at Rio airport appearing in a relaxed mood, gesturing to fans and posing for pictures with his usual bravado.

Last week the 100m and 200m world record holder made his first appearance since pulling out of the Jamaican trials with a hamstring strain at the Anniversary Games in London.

Bolt cruised to victory, clocking 19.89 seconds to win over 200 m, his first race over the distance this season.

With the Russian doping scandal engulfing the build-up to the Rio games, Bolt is aware that the Athletics world needs their talisman to shine on the track

‘I know the sport needs me to win – and come out on top,’ said the Jamaican.

Bolt stormed to a trio of golds at the World Championships in Beijing last year but since injuries have hampered preparations for Rio.

‘Especially at the start of last year I noticed that injuries take a little bit more time to get back to where you want to be,’ added the fastest man in the world.

‘My coach always tells me that the older you get it’s going to get harder and you have to push yourself.

‘I always have little doubts in my mind, but I’m focused and ready to go.’

Bolt is relentlessly presented with questions regarding the timing of his retirement from the track, with his era of glory set to end after the 2017 World Championships in London, unless he decides to continue.

‘My coach always says “Usain you can always go on to the 2020 Olympics if you want”,’ added Bolt ‘So this is why he tells me to stop talking about retirement and just take it a year at a time.

‘In football you have the debate who is the best footballer, but no one can debate who the fastest man in the world is.

‘It’s going to be a long time, I think, before somebody comes who will be as talented as me to break my records.’
