Winston’s Take: Obinim’s supporters’ cry

The arrest and the detention of Obinim seems to be on the minds of many. I am not concerned about whether his arrest was right or wrong since his Lawyer said he would go to court to seek his release.

My focus is on his supporters because we are told that the police had to use water cannon to disperse his followers that massed up at the police station. The question is what if someone had sustained injuries? I have always maintained that when a person has an issue with the police, let the law take its course. I know some people are very committed to their religion and thus decided to show your support. But please show your support by praying. After all we are told of how God is still performing miracles so why the fear?

For those that said that “No Release! No Vote!’’ who said the election will not go on if you do not vote? Who said others won’t vote if you do not vote?  Where have you seen in the world that we have had everyone voting?

Of course I blame the politicians too because they are the reason why some Ghanaians think that they can always hold politicians to ransom by using their vote because they do all manner of things in an election year just to get votes. We saw the release of the taxi drivers in 2008 when we were getting into the 2nd round of the election by President J. A Kufuor.

We have seen the decision to restore the nurses trainees’ allowance because we are in an election year. What do you expect when you keep doing these things just to get votes? Then you would always have people threatening that they won’t vote if their desires are not granted.

He cannot be in police custody for more than 48hours without he being remanded by court so let the law take its course, he will go to court and the court will do its job.
