At least 30 people are injured in an early Tuesday morning accident involving a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus and six other vehicles on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
The accident occurred at about 7:30am at Birimso Koboo in the East Akyem District of the Eastern Region when the MMT bus rammed into Daewoo vehicle [GS 8204-12 ] which was being towed away from the shoulders of the highway.
The MMT was said to have slipped before crashing the Daewoo and within minutes, a VVIP bus [GR 5007-13], a trailer and other cars which were said to be speeding approached the scene but failed to apply their breaks and rammed into the accident cars one after the other, TV3’s Yvonne Neequayee reports.
Both the MMT and the VVIP buses turned on their sides off the road while the trailer went into the bush.
Our correspondent reported that the injured were quickly removed from the accident vehicles and rushed to the various health facilities within the area including the Hawa Memorial Hospital at Akyem Tafo where they were treated of minor injuries.
ASP Peter Okyere, the Kyebi MTTD Divisional Commander who confirmed the accident to our correspondent urged drivers to be cautious on the road, especially in the rainy season because visibility becomes poor and the roads slippery
