Accra-based radio station, 3FM 92.7 in partnership with Fat2Fit and Acacia Health Insurance have launched a 60-day fitness challenge to encourage Ghanaians to eat healthy.

Within the next 60 days, participants are encouraged to adopt healthy eating lifestyle, especially eat plant-based meals, as well as exercise regularly in order to avoid lifestyle diseases.

The more than 400 participants who have signed up for the challenge will be given meal and exercise plans carry out. Each of them will be motivated by instructors to achieve their goals.

The challenge, which was launched last Saturday with a walk from Ayi Mensah to Peduase on the Aburi road, is designed to help those desiring to lose weight.

Prior to the walk, participants were given free health screening at which they had the chance to check their body mass index and engaged in light stretches.

Participants were at the end taken through aerobics session with Beatrice Afful, a fitness instructor.

The person to lose the most weight at the end of the 60-day challenge will be crowned the Biggest Weight Loser, and take home amazing prizes including a six-month free gym membership with the Aviation Social Centre, and a 32-inch flat screen TV from online market place, Kpapkakpa Market.

Founder of Fat2Fit, DerGross Akoto, told 3News contrary to perceptions, a lot of Ghanaians now desire to lose weight.

“Many people however lack the motivation, discipline and the requisite skills and knowledge to lose weight the healthy way” he said.

He explained that the challenge was therefore organized to serve as a guide and motivation for such individuals.
Mr Akoto challenged participants to be consistent with healthy lifestyle choices if they are to see results with their weight loss goals.

Head of station at 3FM 92.7, Ms Petra Aba Asamoah, underscored the station’s commitment to supporting initiatives that would contribute to the health and wellness of its listeners and Ghanaians in general.

She advised the participants to be committed to the programme.

A representative from Acacia Health Insurance, Ms Tracy Kemi Ajoke said Acacia’s decision to support the initiative stems from its commitment to offering its clients and Ghanaians an avenue to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Meanwhile, some participants of the first edition were present to inspire the participants with their weight loss success stories.
