450MW Karpower barge will be delivered despite Turkey coup

Karpower 2Karporwership Ghana has given an assurance that its promise to deliver 450 megawatts of the power barge is on schedule despite a coup in Turkey, the country where the ship is being built.

A statement from the company said “all our international and local personnel are safe and all our operations inside & outside of Turkey and construction works in our shipyards continue without any interruptions or delays.

“Thus the 450mw Powership expected in Ghana this year will be delivered as planned.”

There was a failed coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016 which raised tension and chaos in some parts of the country.

The attempt was immediately foiled by the government and it has “taken full control” of the country.  Life has returned to normal in Turkey, operations at the airports, ports, public institutions amongst others

Over 7,500 people have been arrested or detained following the failed coup attempt. The judicial process against the plotters is underway. Karpowership has also extended its sympathies to the victims of this “terrible crime. Our thoughts are with their families” the statement said.

210 MW of electricity is currently being fed into the national grid by the first power barge from Karpower out of the 235MW installed capacity.
