President John Dramani Mahama has granted amnesty to a total of 896 prisoners.
A Flagstaff House release gave a breakdown of the freed prisoners as follows:
- 813 first offenders
- 16 seriously ill
- 63 aged 70 years and above
- 1 double amputee
- 3 on death row life imprisonment
The prisoners were freed in commemoration of the 56th Republic Day celebration on July 1.
