A prophet is not accepted in his own town – Mahama hits back at detractors

PNC flagbearer Dr. Edward Mahama has hit back at his critics saying his concentration is on shaping the future of Ghana rather than engage any individual on their opinions about him.

Some regional chairpersons of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have called for the immediate resignation of the party’s flag bearer, Dr Edward Mahama.

These party executives have described the flagbearer as confused, disillusioned and say he doesn’t know what to do in the selection of a running mate for the party, a few months to the 2016 general elections.

They are also accusing him of spending all his time at the hospital rather than hitting the ground running to bring the PNC into power in 2017.

Dr. Mahama told Steve Anti on 3FM’s News Hour that issues like this are not a concern to him because Jesus Christ in the Bible said a prophet isn’t accepted in his own town hence such allegation against him are not surprising.

“Jesus Christ himself said a prophet is not accepted in his own town and in his own family”.

According to Dr. Mahama, who is running on the party’s ticket for the fifth time, he was elected as flagbearer for the PNC after shaking off competition from other candidates.

“The majority accepted me and that is why I won it and I wasn’t alone as we are all aware because I won a contested primary,” he said.

“My focus is on my campaign and I am looking forward to hitting the ground running very soon and I am very excited about the positive ideas I have for this great country.

“I have better ideas to get Ghana out of the darkness. We have to see the light of day so for me I don’t see individuals as a problem but the massive unemployment, poverty, ignorance and diseases in the country are what I am focused on.”
