Accra Psychiatric to re-open for OPD services Monday

Accra PsychiatricThe Accra Psychiatric Hospital is set to re-open its Outpatient Department  to offer services to the general public from Monday.

The hospital shutdown its outpatient department three days ago due to shortage of logistics, leaving many outpatients stranded while in-patients had to be fed anything available.

The decision to reopen the department followed a crunch meeting by the Board of the Mental Health Authority Friday, September 30.

“We are aware of the issues and we have been working on it. With regards to this issue, board members have just had a meeting including the director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital and various remedies have been decided, Public Relations Officer of the Authority,  Kwaku Brobbey, told 3FM.

“I can assure you that hopefully on Monday, the OPD will be opened to the general public,” he assured.

He said the GHC1.6 million financial assistance from the Ministry of Health were shared among the three mental health institutions per the directive by the ministry.

“We are a regulatory body and we regulate the three facilities. Now the monies were released directly from the ministry to the hospitals. We did not do the release and it was also to pay some of the debts each hospital was owing,” he said

He explained that “whatever we do, we collaborate with the directors of the various hospitals so it go out from our end”
