The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria Emeka Rollas Ejezie, recently provided clarification regarding his premature announcement concerning the death of actor Obumneme Odonwodo, famously known as Junior Pope.
Initially, reports of Junior Pope’s demise spread rapidly, leading to widespread shock and sorrow within the entertainment industry and beyond. However, Rollas took to social media to contradict these reports, confirming that Junior Pope was indeed alive.
The situation took a dramatic turn when viral videos surfaced, depicting efforts to revive Junior Pope, accompanied by claims that he had miraculously come back to life. Rollas, in a subsequent update, expressed profound sadness and explained the circumstances behind his initial announcement. He revealed that the excitement stemmed from noticing signs of life in Junior Pope, prompting him to share the news prematurely. Despite the efforts of two notable hospitals, Junior Pope could not be revived, ultimately succumbing to the tragic incident.
“My first post was out of excitement when we noticed his tingling fingers. Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail.
“God knows the best. We finally lost him,
Mr Friday’s corpse has been identified but three other corpses are yet to be found,” he explained.
Junior Pope tragically lost his life when his boat capsized in Anam River, Anambra State, as he returned from a film location with three colleagues. Just hours earlier, he shared a video praying for a safe journey on April 9, 2023. His passing leaves behind a grieving family—his wife and three children—and a saddened entertainment community.
