The decision by the NPP flagbearer to create the eleventh region out of the Western Region when voted into power has been lauded by local government expert, Mr. George Kyei Baffour.
NPP’s Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo ending his five day tour to the Western Region promised to add one more region to the existing 10 if he wins the December polls.
His comment has generated huge debate within the political arena.
But speaking to the issue on Onua FM, George Kyei Baffour applauded the NPP presidential candidate for having such a foresight for the region and the nation at large.
Though the move would be constitutional, he called for further and proper consultations to be done to avoid any subsequent implications.
He explained that a new region or district is created in order to enhance decentralization, development and accountability. He cited the examples of regions created by former presidents Kwame Nkrumah and Jerry John Rawlings and reiterated that those regions are doing tremendously well in terms of infrastructural development.
Mr. Kyei Baffour further made a passionate appeal to Nana Akufo-Addo to also consider splitting Brong Ahafo, Volta and Northern regions.
