Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who shook the foundations of the judiciary last year with his exposé on some judges, has been awarded the Journalist of the Year at the 21st GJA Awards.

Held at the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday, August 27, the Awards honoured media practitioners who distinguished themselves in various fields the past year.

With his documentary film ‘Ghana in the Eyes of God: Epic of Injustice’, Anas walked away with the keys of a brand new saloon car, the ultimate prize, donated by title sponsors Groupe Ideal.

The prize was, however, received on behalf of Anas by two dummies. A member of Tigereyepi, his production outfit, explained that the investigative journalist is out of the country.

Anas in the speech read on his behalf expressed gratitude to the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) for the honour done him by naming him the recipient of this year’s PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year.

Finder‘s Elvis Darko also received the keys to another saloon car for being named winner of the Dr Nii Kotei Dzani Special Award, which goes to the Best Financial Reporter .

Honorary awards were also handed to Groupe Ideal, Global Media Alliance, EIB Network, Ghana Armed Forces, Good Morning Ghana, Viasat 1 and Former GJA Secretary Bright Blewoo.

The award was themed: ‘The Media for Undisputed and Peaceful Elections: The Support of Civil Society’.

Special Guest of Honour was the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Oseadeyo Agyemang-Badu.

Guest Speaker was the chair of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei.

Minister of Communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah also delivered an address.
