Campaign for peace launched

Peace campaign

As part of efforts to promote peace in Ghana in 2016 and beyond, Peaceful Character Education Foundation (PCEF), an non-governmental organisation in collaboration with other key NGOs championing peace campaign in the country, has launched a campaign dubbed “Peace in Ghana 2016 and beyond”.

The campaign seeks to sensitize Ghanaians, educate and create awareness on the need to keep the peace before, during and after 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The campaign message, according to Mr. Richard Wogodo, President of PCEF, hinges on 5 key pillars for peaceful election in Ghana.

These pillars are self-control, respect, acceptance, responsibility and S.T.O.P (stop, think, weigh our options and proceed with the right choice).

Speaking at the launch at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Saturday, July 2, Mr Wogodo noted the 5 key pillars principles are indeed important because “it does not only help us to achieve a peaceful elections but at the general society level can help transform and make our communities a peaceful one before, during and after the November polls”.

The PCEF boss, Mr. Wogodo, also highlighted his outfit will be embarking on series of programs which includes annual peace seminars and peace fairs for students, workers, parents and all individuals  across the country. In addition, it will also introduce “PCEF clubs” in all basic and second cycle schools in the country including initiating a number of TV and radio shows to help promote peace in Ghana.

Two of such TV shows he mentioned include “Parenting Manual Show; a TV talk show that teaches parents how on how to become great and better parents including “the kids and peaceful solution show”; a show that will teach and encourage kids into developing positive moral character and also be able to teach others.

Meanwhile, the National Vice-President of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Mr. Steve Revss has cautioned the youth to desist from any action of violence that is likely to mar the peace Ghana enjoyed before, during and after this year’s polls.

He called on all Ghanaians to accept the result of whoever emerges as winner in the 2016 Presidential elections.
