President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi is urging churches and other not-for-profit organisations seeking support from international donor agencies to come up with viable projects that will yield enough financial returns.
According to him, international donor agencies funding large projects have come up with a social enterprise investment model that requires them to assess the impact of projects before they commit to funding.
“When they [donors] give, they need to see results, and they give as business people and so when they are giving, they want to see that everything is accounted for in detail like any other dealing.”
The President further indicated that a lot of projects have come to a standstill due to the nature of projects and conventional methods of seeking support from donor agencies as they are inundated with proposals from diverse organisations across the world.
Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi spoke at the launch of Catholic Relief Services Ghana (CRS) Local leadership Strategy and capacity building workshop in Accra.
“This is where social enterprise investment comes in and to enable that the donations given are accounted for, these donations are often given as soft loans to ensure the viability of the donations given,” he added.
