Cephas Arthur rejects assertion ‘many police’ are involved in crime

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, says it would be an exaggeration to say too many police personnel are now engaging in crime.

The month of August alone has seen the arrest of three police officers for their complicity in criminal activities.

The Kaneshie Police on Tuesday uncovered a car-snatching syndicate in Accra led by two policemen attached to the Accra Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.

Another policeman was apprehended by the Tema Regional Police for training suspected armed robbers at the Ramseyer Site at Community 3.

The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, says the arrests indicate the police are working.

But sections of the public are concerned that those who are supposed to fight crime are rather engaged in it.

Speaking to Winston Amoah on 3FM’s Sunrise, Supt Cephas Arthur says the situation is being exaggerated.

“Not because we have had so many. Just a couple of them within a short space of time so it gives the sense that there is complicity on the part of the police. But that is not so,” he said.

He added that: “Even if one happens, it calls for concern but what is being said now is an exaggeration”.
