Coach Bashiru Hayford who led Obuasi Ashanti Gold to win the 2014/2015 Ghana’s premier league has explained why his side failed to make an impact when the 2015/2016 league started.

According to Bashiru Hayford, the team experienced some level of disturbances from the management of Ashgold at the start of the season.

He claimed some of his players were owed by management; however instead of settling its debt the management was rather insulting the players.

The insults, he said, demoralized the spirit of the players.

In an interview with Onua FM, he said at a point the management wanted to resign en bloc whilst some players also considered terminating their contract with the club.

He himself had wanted to resign as the head coach of the club but was advised against that decision by some close associates.

Bashiru Hayford noted that having worked as a coach for 19 years, he never witnessed such a mess in a team before.

“Although accumulation of points has helped us in the second round, some people do not think where we are is good,” he noted.

He recalled successes he chalked in the midst of adversity. He cited how fans criticized him severely when he was coaching Kumasi Asante Kotoko, but he ended up winning the league with the team.

He also attracted avalanche of criticisms the same year he won the league with Ashgold.

Although Ashgold has won two matches at home as he strives to put the team in good position, he is doubtful the defending champions will get more than 52 points this season.
