Court adjourns PPP case against EC to Oct 25

An Accra High Court has adjourned the case filed by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) against the Electoral Commission (EC) over their flagbearer’s disqualification to October 25.

The PPP was praying the court to bar the EC from going ahead with the balloting of presidential nominations until further notice and also to rule for their flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum, to be allowed to contest in the December 7 polls.

The court in adjourning the case granted the EC’s request for an abridged trial which means that the case should be expedited to help the commission work within it’s time table for the elections.

The PPP on October 14 dragged the EC to court over the disqualification of the party’s flagbearer over an error in his nomination forms.

Other disqualified political parties including Nana Konadu’s National Democratic Party (NDP) and Dr. Edward Mahama’s People’s National Convention (PNC) have also filed their case in court seeking similar reliefs of an injunction on balloting for presidential positions for the elections.

All of them are also asking the court to overturn their disqualification and allow them to contest in the elections.

The PPP’s running mate, Bridget Dzogbenuku, was in court with some other executives and supporters of the party.
