C/R: Nkusukum irked by Amissah-Arthur no-show during Odambea Festival

The Acting President of the Nkusukum Traditional Council, Nana Kwesi Brebo III, has expressed worry about the neglect of the Nkusukum by government in terms of development.

According to Nana Kwesi Brebo III, the area especially its capital Saltpond is not being given the needed recognition and denied of developmental projects.

“It seems Saltpond is not being given the due recognition as the real capital of the Mfantsiman municipality due to the fact that the town has been denied some projects such as the a divisional police command, circuit /high court and a polyclinic,” he complained during a grand durbar of the 2016 annual Odambea Festival at Saltpond in the Central Region.

The durbar saw hundreds of people on the streets of the Saltpond calling to catch a glimpse of the procession of the chiefs and queenmothers riding in their palanquins.

The durbar was held at the Roman Catholic Park.

Among the dignitaries invited were 2015 Ghana’s Most Beautiful winner Esi, Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu and Dr Ransford Gyampo of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) who was the chairman of the occasion.

The rest are Central Region Minister Kweku Rickets-Hagan and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who failed to turn up much to the anger of residents.

They were represented by the Municipal Chief Executive Kweku Hayfron, who reported to the event late.

“Nanom should find a way to sanction these government officials especially the MCE who lives here in this town and failed to turn up on time when virtually everyone had gone home,” a resident said.

“Look at the empty chairs here for a grand durbar of big festival like Odambia,” one aggrieved woman Adwoa Tawiah said.
