Former English professional footballer, David Beckham has hinted that he would jump at the chance to return to Manchester United in an off-field role if the Glazers sell the club.
The takeover is shrouded in uncertainty as Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe await a decision, and Beckham is keeping a keen eye on developments.
August will see the long-winded process enter its ninth month as the indecisiveness that has plagued United throughout the Glazers’ ownership continues.
There is reportedly a split between the six siblings. Some are happy to cash in and walk away from United after 18 years, while Avram and Joel Glazer dig their heels into the ground.
Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Ratcliffe have emerged as the two leading candidates, but minority investment remains a possibility.
Meanwhile, business is booming for Inter Miami president Beckham after Lionel Messi’s sensational start to life Stateside.
And he claims he is fully focused on the MLS outfit at the start of an exciting era with Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba among his ranks.
“I have a lot going on here at the moment, and my focus has purely been on Miami and everything that goes on in my business,” Beckham conceded in an interview with The Athletic.
However, the iconic No 7 hinted that he would love to be involved with United in some form if Sheikh Jassim or Ratcliffe take control at Old Trafford.
He continued: “But I haven’t been approached, and I suppose any involvement with Manchester United would mean the world to me going forward. But who knows?
“We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks or months. Hopefully, a decision gets made and if I’m involved in any way…
“If not, I’ll be a United fan and just do what all the other fans are doing – turn up and watch our team.”
Reports in February claimed Beckham had been approached to endorse certain takeover bids to help win over the fanbase and the Glazers.
And he would likely snap up the opportunity to become involved with the club again if Sheikh Jassim or Ratcliffe entered power in M16.
But the Glazer family releasing their grasp on United is far from a certainty at this stage as the wait continues.
