President John Mahama has given the world his government’s assurance and commitment that Ghana’s election later this year would consolidate the country’s democratic credentials to become a solid African example.
According to President Mahama, plans are far advanced to give all state institutions mandated to play key rolls in the December 2016 elections the necessary assistance for them to execute their duties effectively.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, President Mahama said “Ghana is an leading democracy in Africa, I stand before the world today to declare that just as we have done in the past, my country would go to the polls this December and the processes before, during and after would mark a further consolidation of Ghana’s credentials as a leading world democracy.”
The 2016 elections would be Ghana’s seventh (7th) consecutive election where the countries democracy is tested.
The successes throughout these elections have been applauded globally with Ghana becoming the reference point for democratic elections on the continent of Africa.
This assurance to the world by the Ghanaians president follows several such pledges made at different fora.
President Mahama is himself seeking reelection for another four year term against an opposition candidate (Nana Akufo Addo) of the NPP who is also making a third time attempt at becoming leader of Ghana.
