Black Stars deputy captain Andre Ayew is determined to repay West Ham for their faith in him after completing a club record move.
The Ghana star became the club’s most expensive signing after his £20.5m move and is looking forward with bedding in quickly with a side that would be competing on four fronts including the Europa League this season.
He said: “I think what is the important thing is what happens on the field. I need to do my job and train harder and be ready to prove that I deserve to play for West Ham,” he said.
“My issue is to make sure that I give back to the coach and to the fans, the confidence that they have given to me and then make the West Ham fans proud.”
“It’s not by talking but it’s by proving on the pitch and that’s what is important”, he added.
“That’s why we are going to concentrate and work very hard because we know with the season that West Ham had last year, everyone would be expecting more. It is going to be a very difficult season for us but we need to be ready physically, mentally and be well prepared.”
Dede says one of the things that attracted him to the club was the fact that it would be playing European club football this season.
“I think it’s very important for the club. I think when we see the fan base of West Ham in England and all over the world, I think it’s a club that deserves to play in Europe every season.”
The transfer to West Ham would reunite Dede with his former Olympic Marseille team and current Hammers talisman Dimitry Payet and that thrills the Ghanaian.
“He is a friend of mine, we’ve played for two three years together in Marseille and I know him and he knows me so I’m happy to be back and playing with a great player like him because I know what he is capable of doing and I know what he has done last year and what he can even do more. So now that I am back with him we are going to work together with the whole team and try and do anything possible to make things right for this club.”
