Private universities in the country have been urged to be more proactive in devising ingenious ways to raise funds for their activities to avoid putting excessive burden on the Ghanaian student, especially those from less privileged communities.

Mrs. Roselyne Byrne, Executive Director of AFICIA-GHANA, was advising participants at a two-day Fundraising Workshop in Accra organised by AFICIA-Ghana and the Anglican University College of Technology (ANG.U.TECH). The workshop seeks to make University Education affordable for less privileged persons in underdeveloped communities in Ghana.

The Management of Anglican University College of Technology invited persons with knowledge on fundraising and project management to help come up with ways of generating funds. The University College has its core mandate to make University Education affordable to all persons in Ghana.

Mrs. Roselyne Byrne charged “Faith based institutions like the Anglican University College of Technology should not use the high cost of running a Private University as an excuse to totally shift from their core mandate of helping the needy in the society”.

The workshop which was held at the Anglican Retreat Centre at Ashalley Botwe in Accra recently, was also aimed at training participants to develop skills to identify potential sources of funding; and effectively execute donor funds, in order to attract and sustain donor funding.

Mrs. Georgina Lartey, the Registrar of the Anglican University College of Technology, in her remarks expressed satisfaction in the performance of participants who came up with model project proposals for raising funds based on the training they received.

She remarked, “the University College in its desire to make its programmes accessible to all, will soon start the second Campus in Kumasi”.

She also encouraged stakeholders to support ANG.U.TECH’s initiative of sending university education to the doorstep of persons in underdeveloped communities in Ghana.
