Afrobeats artiste, Kelvyn Boy recently reflected on the transformative impact of his chart-topping song, ‘Down Flat’, sharing on social media how it changed his life.
He emphasized that while all his songs contributed to his income, it was the standout track that truly changed his life.
“All my songs before ‘Down Flat’ made sure there was food on the table, but ‘Down Flat’ changed my life. But you knew that,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter)
In a previous interview with Andy Dosty on Hitzfm last year, Kelvyn Boy revealed, “I put together ‘Down Flat’ in just 25 minutes,” underscoring the spontaneous nature of the song. Reflecting on his creative process, he remarked, “Sometimes I don’t know how I do it. Down Flat was recorded in 25 minutes. It sometimes sounds like I planned the whole recording.”
Touching on the song’s development, he shared, “When I heard the beat at home, I started humming the melodies. The first verse just came first. The second verse came later because I was trying to find a different style for it.”
Kelvyn Boy’s ‘Down Flat’ gained significant success when it was released in 2022, securing a spot on Billboard’s Top 50 Afrobeats Songs Chart alongside stars like Wizkid, Tems, Davido, Fireboy DML, and others. The song also gained popularity on TikTok and various social media platforms, featuring a distinctive dance choreography.
Following this, Kelvyn Boy released a remix of what he deems his biggest song ever, collaborating with Nigerian star Tekno and Jamaican musician Stefflon Don.
Again, ‘Down Flat’ earned him the title of Best Highlife Song of the Year at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) and a nomination for Most Popular Song of the Year.
