Progressive People’s Party has described invitation by Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom as a deliberate move to tarnish the reputation of the party’s flagbearer.

EOCO has given the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), up to Wednesday, October 26, to explain how they funded aspects of their political campaigns.

But in an interview with 3FM, communications director of the PPP, Paa Kow Ackon says the move by EOCO is unacceptable and must be condemned by all.

According to him, EOCO is engaging in political prosecution of their flagbearer.

“When state institutions behave in the way EOCO is behaving, it’s a cause for worry and we are extremely disappointed with this blatant abuse of   state power, clearly it tells you that EOCO itself has not read the political parties law…what they are doing is political prosecution of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and we will not allow that to happen”.

Meanwhile, Policy think tank, Imani Ghana has waded into the controversy surrounding the invitation of Dr Hassan Ayariga and Dr Nduom by EOCO.

electionscommandOn a Facebook post , the founding president of Imani, Franklin Cudjoe, described the move by EOCO as a joke.

“So where is this oddious invitation from the Economic and Organized Crimes Organization to the PPP and APC coming from? To declare where their sources of funds for campaigning are coming from?”

He added that“the last time I checked, the PPP’s flagbearer is the only competent business man with a trail of transparent businesses in this race to the Presidency!!

And I also know the PPP candidate is the only one who has declared his assets and even publicly told us his health status. Why I am not surprised?

He blamed the electoral commission for failing to ensure political parties follow the rules on publishing their audited financial accounts.

“If the Electoral Commission had ensured that all parties publish their audited financial accounts, why would we need the passive aggressive behavior from the EOCO? Jokes!”
