The only surviving independent presidential candidate for the 2016 elections, Jacob Osei Yeboah, believes the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) has perfected the electoral systems of Ghana with her latest decision.
He said the electoral laws have been there since but “Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan overlooked them all” but the EC Chairperson has come to perfect the system.
“This is the 7th election and the number 7 represent perfect so it is either we perfect the election for good or evil,” JOY 2012, as he was affectionately called in 2012, said on Onua FM’s Kokromoti hosted by Kwasi Asempa on Friday.
It was the first live radio interview after the EC announced that candidates of three political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Convention People’s Party (CPP) – and JOY are the only candidates qualified for the 2016 elections in December.
JOY said in Akan: “I don’t understand why the EC boss took that decision because God works in mysterious ways. I was David hidden somewhere when they were making noise campaigning”.
EC not vindictive
Mr. Osei Yeboah said the “EC boss, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, is principled. If she were vindictive, I should not have been chosen. I should have been disqualified as well because I have taken her to court”.
He added, “we should have been taken off if the Commission or the woman is vindictive but she has perfected the electoral system”.
“The EC has perfected its roles and it left with we the people of Ghana to perfect ourselves during the elections”.
