The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has deleted from the voters’ register names of some persons who registered with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.
About 56,000 names have been deleted, 3news.com has gathered.
Specifically, 56,772 names presented to the Supreme Court in the Abu Ramadan/Evans Nimako Vs EC/AG case have been deleted.
The exercise was carried out in accordance with the Court’s order issued on Tuesday, July 5.
The Court ordered the immediate deletion of the names of all NHIS-registrants after the implementation of an earlier ruling had stirred controversy.
With the 56,772 names deleted, the Commission is expected to delete other NHIS-registrants whose names were not presented in Court.
The Commission has promised to publish the deleted names in order to enable the affected re-register as per the Court’s order.
The list of deleted names will also be made available to the various political parties. The list will also be made available to the district and metropolitan offices of the Commission.
All registrants have also been advised to confirm names during the exhibition of the voters register from Monday, July 18 to Sunday, August 7, 2016.
