Edward Mahama honoured for commitment to peace

Edward Mahama honour

Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr. Edward Nasigre Mahama says he is the only one who stands for peace among all the political party leaders in Ghana.

His comment follows an honour conferred on him by the Rotary Club of Accra for being the only political party leader among the four major parties in Ghana to have signed a peace declaration signifying his commitment to ensure peace prevails in Ghana before, during and after the November polls.

Dr. Edward Mahama made the assertion known to journalists in an interview after the short ceremony organized by Rotary Club of Accra on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his party head office in Accra.

The ceremony which was attended by scores of People’s National Convention (PNC) sympathizers and big wigs including the National Chairman, Bernard Monarh and National Women’s Organiser Ms. Janet Nabila, among others saw the party’s flagbearer honoured with a plaque, which bore a beautiful citation as a recognition for his commitment to ensure peace in the upcoming elections slated for November.

Rotary Club of Accra earlier organized a peace summit for the Presidential candidates of the four major political parties in Ghana, namely National democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), PNC and Convention People’s Party (CPP).

At the close of the conference the four leaders were meant to sign a declaration to show their commitment towards ensuring peace in the upcoming polls in November.

Unfortunately out of the four flagbearers, only the leader of PNC, Dr. Edward Mahama showed up, leading to his honour.

When asked in an interview why he showed up for the signing of the declaration when others refused, Dr. Mahama said, “I believe that all institutions in Ghana should be respected. Rotary Club is an International Organization and when their representatives in Ghana see the need to organize us for peace, it means they’ve smelled something bizarre so I thought I should be there and I was there only there, so you can say boldly without fear or favour that I’m the only one who stands for peace”.
