The National Zongo Magajia Association has added its voice to the call by other individuals and women groups in the country, on Parliament to as a matter of urgency call to order Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central for his derogatory remarks against Chair of the EC, Charlotte Osei.

The group on Friday, July 8, 2016 at a press conference vehemently condemned the  scalding comments made by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong against women in the past including the recent one which suggested the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs.  Charlotte Osei exchanged sex for her job.

National Secretary of the Association, Hajia Issah in an interview with journalists at the conference described those disparaging comments from the astute legislator against women as “quite unfortunate”. She wondered why a Parliamentarian of such a notable repute born by a woman, married to a woman ould be making those comments and yet Parliament has never taken any action against him.

“We believe enough is enough, Parliament should call him to order , had it not been anything at all it’s a woman who gave birth to him and he has married to a woman including having sisters as a woman so why always insulting the dignity of women?” she asked.

“We therefore call on the Speaker of Parliament, leaders of his political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and women in his family to as a matter of urgency ‘rise up and call him to order’ to put matters to rest.

“Mr. Kennedy Agyapong must apologize to Mrs. Osei and all women of Ghana for making us look like sex symbols and making a joke of the hard won reputation of such  a noble and respectable woman,” she charged.

The group says it will be joining hundreds of women on Tuesday, July 12 2016 to march on the streets of Accra to call the attention of leaders of NPP and Parliament to sanction Mr. Kennedy Agyapong for his unacceptable and gross disrespect for women.

Meanwhile, the National Zongo Magajia Association in a press statement has defended Mrs. Charlotte Osei as someone who has worked tirelessly to gain her dignity and should not be disrespected.
