The reigning queen of Ghana’s Most Beautiful, Esi, has urged candidates taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to downplay nervousness and master courage to write the exams.
The beauty queen gave this advice on Monday, June 13 when she visited some centres in Cape Coast.
At the Wesley Girls High School, where 461 candidates are expected to write the exams, she advised students not to be intimidated by the fact that it is their first external examination but be courageous and answer the questions very well.
“Don’t be afraid and be nervous but believe in yourselves that you can make it. Myself and the teachers you see around all wrote same exams too,” she intimated.
Esi reminded them also that when they let fear grip them, it is likely to forget all that they have learnt.
Esi also urged the candidates especially the girls to come out with good grades so they could gain admission to most of the schools in the Central Region.
“As you are aware, Central Region boasts of the best schools in Ghana. This very centre you are going to take the exams, Wesley Girls High School, Mfantsiman Girls School, Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College are all among the best which I want to see you get admission to,” she said.
She, however, cautioned them against any form of examination malpractice and be of good behaviour and wished them very well in their exams.
“I wish you all the very best of luck and may the LORD be with and remember education is the key to success.”
Speaking to TV3’s Thomas Vincent Cann shortly after her tour, Esi said her visit to the centre was to encourage the candidates to do well.
She reiterated that such moves will help the pupils aspire to greater heights.
She expressed worry about the number of indigenes from the Region who are not able to gain admission into the senior high schools there.
“I and my team from my foundation, Pempamsie Foundation, decided to take it upon ourselves to go round as a way to encourage the kids to make it in the exams.
“We realised that they sometimes need such stuff like me being a public figure that most of them look up to to talk to them.”
Esi was also at the Adisadel College centre, 562 candidates comprising of 15 schools are expected to write their exams.
She also hinted on an upcoming event on the 18th June at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Cape Coast for the BECE graduates by her Foundation in collaboration with Rufhaus Entertainment dubbed: All Schools Fiesta.
“The event is an entertainment one targeted at advising the children not to lead any promiscuous lives that may lead to social vices. I and other stakeholders from the education sector and some guardians and counselling experts will talk to them”.
The Central Region expects 48,949 candidates to be part of this year’s BECE.
