Stephen Atubiga, one of the two persons jailed by the Supreme Court for contempt during the 2012 Election petition says he has schooled one of the three persons currently facing contempt charges for threatening to kill Supreme Court judges.

Mr Atubiga who was handed a three-day jail term in 2013, met with Alistair Nelson to advise him, apparently against unguarded statements and to wish him the very best and God’s blessing ahead of the Supreme Court’s hearing of his case on Monday.

“With Alistair Nelson today [Tuesday] at a location after Supreme Court adjournment of case to Monday. I have schooled him well,” Atubiga wrote against photos of him and Alistair  shared on his Facebook wall Tuesday evening.
Alistair and one other speaking on an Accra-based Montie FM threatened to kill the judges of the Supreme Court over their orders to Ghana’s Electoral Commission to clean the voter’s register.

The Supreme Court in June this year ordered the Electoral Commission to submit to it names of all persons who used National Health Insurance cards as proof of identity to register to vote in the 2012 general elections.

This infuriated Alistair and Godwin Ako Gunn who considered the order unfavourable to their party, the National Democratic Congress, hence made unsavoury comments against the judges which the Supreme Court viewed as contemptuous.

The  court subsequently summoned them to explain why they should not be jailed.

The two together with the host of the show and one of the owners of the radio station, appeared before the Supreme Court Tuesday but the court could not hear them because they were short served with the court processes.

The case has thus been adjourned to July 18 for them to appear again.

Alistair is ‘a good student’

But ahead of the next court date, Mr Atubiga said he has met with Alistair and advised him, saying, “He has really been a good student. As a senior contemnor ,he has my blessing and God will see him through.

Atubiga was jailed three days on July 2, 2013 by the Supreme Court after he was found guilty of contempt of court for his comments to the effect that the National Democratic Congress would disregard the decision of the Court in the 2013 election petition case of it does not favour his party.
