A former Sports Minister, Mallam Ali Yusif Issah says politics in football can neither be avoided nor go unnoticed given that the tax payers’ money is always involved.
The minister under the Kufour administration said every wrongdoing goes back to the Ghana FA president regardless of what goes wrong or right within the sport.
For this reason, he called for proper management methods by politicians to manage and administer the sector rather than trying to devoid it of politics.
Mallam Issah made these remarks in an interview with 3news.com and was fretful about how the GFA hides behind FIFA’s rules of ‘No Political Interference in Football’ to always go unchecked.
“I don’t want to zero it to football but I give them thumbs-up to the Sports Ministry because there has been some sort of improvement compared to other jurisdictions and I think Nyantakyi is doing very well.”
He noted the major setback for the Sports Ministry has been the lack of cooperation, honesty and transparency over the years, adding that much is desired of the Ministry to perform better.
According to him, the Ministry has so far improved and is working much better than before.
Mallam Ali Yusif Issah was jailed in 2001 for misplacing $46,000 as bonus for the Black Stars on an assignment in Sudan and was later granted presidential pardon in 2003 due to ill-health.
