Ford car saga: Dismiss accusations against me – Mahama responds to CHRAJ

Mahama Car gift

In a letter addressed to the acting Commissioner of CHRAJ, signed by his lawyer, Tony Lithur, President Mahama indicated that he was innocent of all the allegations leveled against him.

Tony Lithur submitted that at the earliest opportunity, he [president Mahama] instructed the vehicle to be added to the official presidential fleet and it has since been used for official purposes.

He noted It is important to point out that at the time the vehicle was delivered to the Presidency, his client was not aware that Mr. Kanazoe’s company had been awarded a contract to construct the perimeter wall around the Ghana mission in Ouagadougou.

Mr. Lithur added that president Mahama could, therefore, not have played any role whatsoever in, or exercised any influence over the award of the contract.

Some Ghanaians including the Minority in Parliament have said his acceptance of the gift amounts to conflict of interest.

Lawyer Lithur therefore submitted in the circumstances, the complaints made by all three complainants are absolutely without any basis whatsoever, either in law or in fact, and, therefore, should be dismissed.
