Ford Expedition gift: CHRAJ receives petition against Mahama

Mahama

A petition against President John Dramani Mahama over a Ford Expedition vehicle gift from Burkinabe contractor Djibril Kanazoe has been received by the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) , its Deputy Commissioner has confirmed.

The petition was filed by the Youth Wing of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM on Tuesday, June 21, Deputy CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal said another individual has also petitioned his outfit over the same issue.

The CPP and the individual are seeking clarity over the status of the vehicle: whether it was a gift or could have influenced the president in awarding a contract to the Burkinabe, thereby making it a bribe.

Mr Whittal says his outfit is looking forward to other petitions as reported.

“When all come, we will consolidate them,” he pointed out.

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is also said to be preparing a petition to the same effect.

Mr Whittal said a preliminary assessment of the petitions will be done to ascertain if the claims warrant further probe.

He assured that diligent work will be done to ensure that the truth over any cases of conflict of interest is unmasked.
