Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah says he is hoping to become a well-developed player under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The 18-year-old Ghanaian joined the Red Devils from Ajax Amsterdam in 2014, progressing through the youth ranks to become a first team player last season under former coach Louis van Gaal. He made in total 10 Premier League appearances last term.
“My aim last season was to make my debut for Manchester United and that happened, so I was very pleased with that,” he said in an interview with Youth Academies.
“I played 10 games and believed I developed well from that and learned a lot from it. So I’m happy how last season went for me.
“This season, I have set goals. I want to play the most games and stay fit for the whole season. I also want to keep on developing and to progress into a top player and become a complete player under this very good manager Jose Mourinho,” he added.
Fosu-Mensah also claims the Premier League is faster and more physical than the Eredivise and that he keeps learning from his teammates.
“I think the English game is much faster and more physical than what I was used to back in Holland.
“Training with players like Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Juan Mata, even if they are not your position, it definitely helps you develop as a player and you learn a lot from them.”
Fosu-Mensah is on the radar of Ghana FA, which is hoping for a nationality switch from Netherlands to enable him play for the Black Stars.
