2022 Grammy Awards: Rocky Dawuni grabs a nomination with ‘Voice Of Bunbon, Vol. 1’

The nominees for the 64th annual Grammy Awards were unveiled on 23rd November ahead of the event on 31 January, 2022 with Rocky Dawuni securing his second nomination in 5years.

The Ghanaian reggae aritste was shortlisted for his 2020 LP “Voice Of Bunbon, Vol. 1” in the Best Global Music Album category, formerly known as the Best World Music Album category for “containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental Global Music recordings,” according to the Recording Academy.

He faces competition from Daniel Ho & Friends, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti And Made Kuti and WizKid.

“Voice of Bunbon”, released on October 30comes on the heels of his most recent full-length album “Beats of Zion” (2019) which received tremendous acclaim around the globe and featured five incredible music videos filmed in Ghana, India, the US and beyond. Rocky’s move back to his home country of Ghana is evident in this latest offering which explores contemporary aspects of local music in a creative quest to extend its global appeal.

Dawuni has recorded seven full-length albums. His sixth studio album titled Branches of The Same Tree was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in December 2015 for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, released 31 March 2015 making him the first nominee from his home country of Ghana. Beats of Zion, the 2019 single of Rocky which was released January 25 is a precursor to his 7th studio album which also bears the same title

The Grammy Awards were first held in 1959 to honour “artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.” Presented by Grammy oversight body the Recording Academy, the award for world music was first awarded in 1992.

The Recording Academy will present the 2022 GRAMMY Awards show on Mon, Jan. 31, on the CBS Television Network(opens in a new tab) and stream live and on demand on Paramount+ from 8–11:30 p.m. ET / 5–8:30 p.m. PT. Prior to the telecast, the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel(opens in a new tab).
