President John Dramani Mahama says he is positive Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa will win the Wa East parliamentary seat and make it to Parliament.
He made this pronouncement at the launch of the 2016 NDC Braille Manifesto at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Monday, October 10.
The launch saw President Mahama donating demonstration motor cycles to some persons living with disabilities, a commitment to improve the mobility of the physically challenged and introduce them to economic activities under ‘Consolidating Social Protection’ section of the NDC’s manifesto.
Addressing hundreds of PLWD’s present at the launch, President Mahama described Dr. Daanaa as an effective member of his cabinet and expressed optimism the first visually impaired minister of state will win the Wa East parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.
‘Disability not inability’
“Dr. Seidu Daanaa here with us is a member of my cabinet and he has been as effective and work as efficiently as any other minister of state in my cabinet”.
President Mahama said the NDC has always led the way in championing the cause of persons with disability because NDC believes “disability is not inability”.
According to President Mahama, cabinet had become compliant and has therefore decided to put up Dr. Daanaa to stand as a candidate in the Wa East Constituency and is positive he will win the seat.
“It is therefore a happy coincidence that we are launching this braille version of our manifesto at the forecourt of the State House which houses Parliament and so I am sending a signal to Parliament that they should start preparing to receive Dr. Daanaa and they should start getting ready to be compliant.”
He said “order papers and other parliamentary documents will have to be printed in braille version as well”.
