The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has denied claims that the Sports Ministry has ordered a review of the squad for the final Nations Cup qualifying game against Rwanda next month.
There had been reports that the minister, Nii lantey vanderpuye, had asked Avram Grant through the GFA to include more local players in his 23 man squad to cut down on the cost of air tickets.
Grant’s squad is made up of 21 players based outside Ghana, with almost all of them likely to travel to Accra on business class tickets.
But GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sanni Daara says the GFA has not received any such directive from the Minister and that Grant’s squad stays intact.
Speaking on Accra based radio station, Asempa FM, Saanie Daara said “It is not true that the Sports Minister has instructed us to change the squad for the game against Rwanda,”
“I honestly don’t know where those reports are coming from so I will entreat on the public to disregard such reports.”
Wa All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori and Ashanti Gold’s Khadri Mohammed are the only two home based players in Grant’s squad for the 2017 Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda. Ghana has already qualified for next year’s tournament in Gabon.
