The yearly Ghana Cinema Week organised by the National Film Authority of Ghana (NFA) will start on Friday, December 15 to December 22.

The week-long event aims to among other things increase the patronage of Ghanaian films, promote and develop the cinema going culture in the country, establish a sustainable distribution for locally produced Ghanaian films and to also provide an avenue for business growth.

As such this year’s event themed, “Electrified Edition” will engage participants with various films and engaging in activities geared towards the promotion of Ghanaian films.

The Ghana Cinema Week has always been a useful means for selected Ghanaian films to be shown in cinemas across the country and as this year’s kicks off, movie patrons in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale will have the chance to watch a repertoire of Ghanaian movies including Tetteh Quarshie (Heroes of Africa), The Heroines, Single Not Searching, Our Wife and Oguaman.

These selected films will be shown at Silverbird Cinemas, Oyarifa Mall, The Page Centre, Platinum Bay Hotel, Gold Coast Restaurant, and Royal View Cinema in Kumasi and Radach Hotel in Tamale.

In addition to the film screenings, Ghana Cinema Week serves as a vibrant hub for many activities, creating long lasting memories for patrons with guests always have the opportunity to interact with filmmakers and actors.

That is not all, it also creates a conducive atmosphere for socialising with aspiring filmmakers drawing inspiration and guidance from well-established producers.

In the words of Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of NFA, “As Ghana Cinema Week approaches, we find ourselves on the verge of an intense and fascinating experience.

“The Ghana Cinema Week is poised to be a standout event on the calendar for anyone passionate about the transformative power of film”.
