The long awaited congress of the Central and Western Region Rugby Association (CentWest), has taken place at the conference room of the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape coast.
President of CentWest, Mr. James Nunoo commended the efforts of the National President, Mr. Herbert Mensah to promote Rugby across the nation.
He also reached out to delegates to support the sustenance of Rugby by way of approaching companies and individuals to sponsor Rugby Events.
The congress was also attended by the administrator, National Sports Authority (Central Region), Mr. Samuel Nii Oblie, the Regonal Physical Education Coordinator, Mr. Albert Kofi Bonney, a Representative from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly Sports Committee, Kingsley Nana Boafo, the media, some players and school representatives. Referees and club representatives of Griffons RFC, UCC Spartans RFC and Westside RFC were all present.
Solidarity messages were delivered by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Representative, Kingsley Nana Boafo, who stressed that so long as CentWest begins to dialogue with them, they will be ready to support the Association.
The Regional P.E Coordinator, Mr. Albeert Kofi Bonney, in his message also commended the Association for the spate of development of Rugby through the Schools. He also emphasised that in the near future he would want to see Rugby as part of Schools and Colleges sport.
The Metropolitan P.E. Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Dickson Boanya, in a message delivered on his behalf by Mr. Gerry Assan Ekumah expressed his outfit’s willingness to support the Association.
Mr. Steve Noi, Director and Tournament Commissioner at GRFU, who represented the GRFU president stressed that CentWest has come to stay and was hopeful the bond of unity seen in the current executive will take the Association to higher heights.
He said it was the wish of the President that CentWest will be an example of administrative success in the regional Associations and also assured them of his full support.
He touched on the contributions of CentWest to the GRFU and was happy to announce that the Region would be hosting most of the games in the upcoming GRCC.
In his report, the General Secretary of CentWest, Bismark Amponsah stated that the Region had a total of 360 students actively involved in the GIR Program as he outlined the preparations of CentWest towards the GRCC and the GRUPA Tour events. He also encouraged members to get involved in training programs and formation of senior teams.
He also took time to elaborated and demonstrate to delegates the management software scrumIT that the GRFU has adopted.
The Vice President of the CentWest later moved for the adoption of the CentWest Constitution as a working document to guide the running of the Association, which was widely accepted by congress and confirmed by Mr. Samuel Nii Oblie, the NSA Regional administrator who later swore the executives into office.
On behalf of the Executives, the President of CentWest James N.A Nunoo said the Association was working towards the forming of a Police Rugby Team that will compete in the GRCC as well as a women senior team.
He exercised his powers to co-opt members to the board by appointing Mrs. Joyce Baffour Asare as women Representative.
