Government is putting in place measures to ensure that by 2020 Ghana achieves a universal access to electricity, Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has said.
He said this is in line with the country’s national energy strategy.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made this known on Tuesday, July 12 when he addressed the 50th Annual Meetings of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA).
Members are meeting in Accra for the Meetings themed: “Energy Development Through Customer Management, Revenue Collection and Energy Efficiency”.
The vice president said Ghana is on course to achieve its 100 per cent target of electricity accessibility within the next four years.
“We want to move from around 80 to 81 per cent currently to a 100 per cent next four years.”
Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority Ing. Kirk Koffi admitted Ghana’s challenges in the energy sector in the past three years but assured that concrete steps are being taken to make it a thing of the past.
“To avert a future recurrence, we are pursuing various rehabilitation and expansion programmes on the generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure.”
