Dr. Henry Lartey

The flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr. Henry Lartey has implored Ghanaians to take advantage of the rehabilitation of the Komenda Sugar Factory and create employments for themselves.

He noted that sugarcane, a raw material needed to feed the factory, can be grown anywhere in the country.

“The people of Komenda have the comparative advantage over the Komenda Sugar Factory but everyone who can grow sugarcane should start now. It should not be left alone for inhabitants in and around Komenda”, the National Chairman of the GCPP told Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Kwame Karikari Wednesday.

He was commenting on the speculations that the factory could suffer as a result of lack of raw material.

“It should be just like cocoa where people grow everywhere in the country. Places should be made available for people to purchase them all over the country and bring them to the factory at Komenda,” Dr. Lartey explained.

The GCPP leader said “we all have to join in and move Ghana forward by creating the market for these farmers”.

He noted that “banks do not know how to fund farmers. They give the monies to them at the wrong time so they squander the money.”

He added, “when you give money to the farmers, give them capacity building, provide market for them” and they will grow the crops.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

He said youth unemployment in the country can be solved with agriculture. “Crime is up due to unemployment and so we need to create the environment to give them jobs and the crime will reduce”.

ECG

Dr. Lartey said “we should get right Ghanaians to run ECG because Ghanaians are capable of running the company…If government wants to bring in foreigners to manage, Ghanaians should learn from them so that by 20-years that their contract would end, we should have learnt a lot from them to be able to manage it”.

ELECTION 2016

The GCPP leader said “Ghanaians should not be afraid of the Electoral Commission (EC) because EC is just the referee in the election”.

He explained that “the referee cannot cheat if you perform properly and in the same way, the EC cannot cheat in the election”.

ENERGY

Dr. Lartey suggested that “Ghana must enter into solar energy under domestication because solar is free. Where there is light, there is life. Hydro and gas are not the way to go.”
