The governing National Democratic Congress has stormed the Ashaiman constituency with the launch of its Zonal constituency campaigns in the Greater Accra region with about three months to go for the general elections.
This according to the party is part of its political strategy to keep the party relevant and vibrant across the country and also to engage the electorates.
The constituencies that fall within the Zone 1 include Ada Sege, Ningo Prampram, Shai Osu Doku, Kpong Takamanso, Tema East, Tema West and Tema Central. The parliamentary candidates of these constituencies are all expected to turn up and would be unveiled to the supporters.
Party bigwigs expected to attend the event include the Greater Accra regional chairman of the party, Joseph Ade Coker, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and National Organiser and 2016 campaign coordinator, Kofi Adams.
In an interview on Joy Fm, Greater Accra communications officer of the NDC, Jerry Johnson said “we want to set a realistic agenda. As we speak the region is made up of 24 constituencies. It’ll be a lie to say that you’re going to win all the seats.
“What we intend doing is that, now we have 20 seats in parliament and the idea is to maintain or win those 20 seats and go ahead to win an extra 5 that we lost with a small margin in the 2012 elections.
“So our target that we’ve launched is the ‘Agenda 60-40’. We are winning 60% of total votes in Greater Accra then we give out the 40% to other political parties. We will also go ahead to win 25 parliamentary seats.”
