Ghana captain Asamoah has denied he failed a medical at Championship side Reading and insists deal did not happen because the club did not want him to play at the Nations Cup in January.
Gyan is back in the UAE on a season long loan with Al Alhi from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG but only after he had failed to secure a move to England.
The Ghana star had spoken about returning to prove a point but none of the proposed moves to Fulham and Reading happened with reports rife that the Reading deal fell through because he failed his medical.
But Gyan strongly disputes and calls reports that he failed a medical ‘unprofessional.’
He said: “It is not professional at all. I did the medicals, everything was set and I was about to sign. Then we had a conversation that I didn’t agree with. We had a misunderstanding that upset me and I left. The following day when I read I had failed a medical I was shocked”.
He claims the deal broke down because there was an objection to his continuous involvement with the national team which would have meant missing the 2017 Nations Cup in Gabon.
“I am the captain of the national team, the national team made me who I am so I was not going to agree to that or anything that was going to affect that,” he added.
Despite his anger at the medical failure report, Gyan admits he has struggled for fitness lately.
“I have been battling with injury lately so I have not lived up my expectation. Some say I am done but you cannot judge a player when he is not fit. When I am 100% fit then you can judge me.”
The 30-year old claims he is happy to have ‘returned home’ to the UAE but doesn’t hide the fact that England is where he really would have loved to be playing again.
“It was a family motivation first because I am moving my family to the UK so I wanted to be close to my family. I was eager to play in England again and was psyched up again.”
