Nigerian music giant, Burna Boy had made history on Sunday, June 25, 2023, by becoming the first African artist to win four BET Awards in a row.

Burna Boy won the Best International Act category at the 2023 BET Awards, ahead a star-studded field of nominees that included Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Central Cee, Ella Mai, K.O, L7nnon, Stormzy, Tiakola, and Uncle Waffles.

Burna Boy was not present at the show, but he took to social media to celebrate his win. “I’m so grateful for this award,” he wrote. “It’s an honor to be recognized by BET and to be included in such an amazing group of artists.”

Burna Boy’s win is a testament to his growing international success. He has been praised for his fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, and reggae, and his music has been featured on major streaming platforms around the world. In 2020, he became the first African artist to win a Grammy Award for his album “African Giant.”

The Iconic Nigerian Singer’s win is also a sign of the growing global recognition of African music. In recent years, there has been a surge in the popularity of African music, with artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido becoming household names around the world.
