Gospel musician Patience Nyarko has shockingly revealed that her colleague Joe Mettle does not deserve the huge applause he’s receiving because most of his songs are sampled from old Pentecost and Methodist songs.
During a discussion on Onua FM with Christian Agyei Frimpong on Saturday about language barrier being a contributing factor for the unattractiveness of Ghanaian gospel music on the international scene, event and music promoter, Alordia, said one of the reasons why Joe Mettle is more marketable internationally is the use of English language in his songs and the strong brand he has built for himself.
However, Patience Nyarko had a different view saying even though Joe Mettle has been lauded as the most desired gospel act in Ghana, she thinks he has not gotten there yet.
“Joe Mettle has not gotten to where he’s being placed by the public. The way people are lifting him up there, he’s not gotten there yet,” she said.
She claimed that Joe Mettle does not write most of his songs.
“How many English songs does Joe Mettle have? Is it not Pentecost and Methodist songs that he sings? If these churches decide to stop people from singing their songs, what would be the fate of Joe Mettle?” she asked.
She added that Joe Mettle was not the only musician who has international recognition.
