The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo has for the first time spoken on the raging discourse over the arrest and detention of 3 South African ex-cops who were brought into the country to train bodyguards of flagbearer.
Speaking to some chiefs in the Eastern region as part of his Easter visit to the region, Nana Addo indicated that the machinations against him will not succeed because he is “not a violent person.”
The chiefs had mentioned that Ghana is a peaceful country and as we head into the elections all political players should be law abiding and not lead the country into chaos.
It was on the back of this advice that Nana Addo said “I have heard your advice and thank you for it. It is obvious that I’m very patient person. Some people are trying to portray me as a violent individual but I’m not.”
The NPP flagbearer further indicated that “If I were violent I would have caused Ghana to burn in 2012 but that was not the case… If there would be any violence in Ghana, it will never come from the NPP.
The three time presidential hopeful added that “I love Ghana more than I love myself.”
The last week has been dominated by discussions of some three South Africans ex-police officers who were arrested for training some persons believed to be the bodyguards of the NPP flagbearer.
The three were granted bail in court but were whisked away by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and are still in custody following the inability of their lawyers for fulfill their bail bonds.
The BNI has been chastised for their conduct and the NPP says it will later in the week meet to decide on the way forward with regard to this development.
Nana Addo has however said “we want peace in Ghana and we love democracy. The founders of our party love democracy and hence sacrificed their lives for Ghana…”
