I’ll never take Volta region for granted – Mahama

Mahama NDC

President John Dramani Mahama has responded to accusations that his administration had taken the Volta region for granted. According the president, the region would get its fair share of the national cake in due time.

These were said on behalf of the president by Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Doe Adjaho when he addressed hundreds of supporters of the NDC in the Volta region.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta region, Togbe Afede XIV criticised the National Democratic Congress over the ‘World Bank’ tag slapped on the region indicating that it was disrespectful.

In Ghanaian politics calling a region the world bank of a party meant that it was the stronghold of that party. Furthermore some people have insinuated that because a region is tagged as the world bank of a party, any insignia or emblem placed on the ballot paper would be voted for.

This is amongst the reasons why Togbe Afede XIV says the ‘World Bank’ tag was inappropriate.

The speaker, Doe Adzaho said “I assure you that just as President Rawlings and President Atta Mills never forgot about the Volta region, so shall President John Dramani Mahama never forget about the Volta region.”

Some other chiefs and opinion leaders in the Volta region had also criticised government over what they term rejection of the region and lack of appropriate infrastructural development.
